Safari Style

Our safaris are designed for active people of any age who are interested in an in-depth safari experience. Our safaris’ emphasis is on being close to the land, close to the people and close to the culture, as this is what a true African safari is all about. For adventurous people, there are no disadvantages to this approach, only advantages. Although our safaris are comfortable and at times “luxurious,” they are planned and designed to emphasize the quality and depth of the experience rather than simply to maximize luxury.

Our safaris, unless otherwise specified, generally offer accommodations in first-class lodges as well as classic African camping in beautiful, wild and pristine locations. Classic camping is in full-size classic African tents, with beds, hot showers and sit-down toilets. Transportation will be primarily by well-equipped four-wheel drive Land Rover or Land Cruiser safari vehicles, with on-board radio communication.

Our safaris don’t end when the sun goes down. In the tradition of African hospitality, when camping, our camps are always open to dinner guests and visitors. We often invite local researchers and filmmakers working in the areas we visit to join us to discuss their work and adventures. We have shared many memorable campfire chats with National Geographic photographers, elephant researchers from Princeton University, wildlife veterinarians from the Serengeti, documentary filmmakers, lion researchers, hyena researchers and lonely graduate student researchers who welcome the opportunity to take a break from their field work for a good meal and conversation.

For most of our clients, our safaris have been the trip of a lifetime, however they are not for everyone. Our group safaris are not standard tour bus safaris, and we design them to appeal even to those who are not fond of group trips. We will take you to what we truly believe are the most incredible places we know with the time, budget and logistics we have available.  Once there we allow for and encourage individual activities and interests.  If you have an adventurous soul with a passion for exotic wildlife, people and cultures, we welcome you to experience what our Safaris are all about!  top

           Individual Safaris

Our individual customized safaris are trips designed according to your personal needs and interests.  These safaris can include Serengeti wildlife safaris, Kilimanjaro climbs, or Zanzibar beach safaris, and can consist of camping lodges or a combination or the above.

Custom safaris can be created for groups, families, couples or individuals. Our prices range from about $250/person/day for camping safaris through the countryside to about $450/day for luxury lodge accommodations and private charter flights to the premier national park locations.

Custom safaris provide an opportunity to focus on special interests, special activities, educational opportunities and cultural interactions. These are appropriate for photographers, artists, bird watching groups, honeymoon couples, educational groups, or those who simply want extra luxury, extra adventure or more in-depth cultural interactions.

Custom safaris can be organized around a theme, such as birding.   For the adventurous, walking safaris or horseback safaris can be arranged across the Rift Valley with Maasai guides and packhorses.

Making arrangements for a custom safari is easy. Simply contact us and let us know what your interests are, how much time you have, and how many are in your group. We will work with you to plan your custom safari and answer any questions or concerns you might have.

To get you started you should consider choosing between the following 3 broad areas and activities:

1)      Wildlife parks, animal viewing, bird watching, etc. These activities will involve trips to, or in the vicinity of, national parks such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyaraand Tarangire. Plan on at least 5 days, preferably 7 or 8 days.

2)    Climbing expeditions on Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Meru or other alpine areas. These activities will involve more physical adventure and less opportunity for wildlife viewing or cultural interaction. Plan on at least 6 days, preferably 7 or 8 days.

3)    Tropical beach and island activities such as swimming, diving, snorkeling, coral reefs excursions and sailing. These activities will involve visits to Zanzibar Island or other coastal areas. Plan on at least 5 days, preferably 6 or 7 days.

We look forward to working with you to create your ultimate safari adventure!
