Women
are the Heart of Africa. This first Blue Moon “Her Safari” is a
celebration and exploration of the feminine spirit in the birthplace
of humanity. We invite you to join us as we explore the heart of
Africa and experience the wildlife
spectacle of the Great Migration in the southern plains of the
Serengeti with a group of other like-minded women. This safari will
be led by Seba, an African woman born and raised in these lands.
Our
Safari Style
“Her
Safari” is designed for active women of any age. Although our
safaris are comfortable and sometimes luxurious, they are planned
and designed to emphasize the quality and depth of the experience
rather than simply to maximize luxury.
Although
we have carefully planned this itinerary to show you as much as
possible, all activities described here should be considered
optional. Anyone who wants to take a break from the group to relax
and read a book under a tree while the camp crew makes some popcorn,
is welcome. There are also situations that may require us to change
this itinerary a bit, and we will make every effort to keep you
informed of any changes.
This
safari schedule is designed so that we can spend time enough in each
location to feel comfortable and settled with a sense of place.
Although there is by necessity a couple of single night stops, we
have tried to minimize these in favor of setting a large comfortable
camp in one beautiful private location from which we will be free to
explore, and then return to a familiar place.
The
accommodations on this safari include well-appointed permanent tent
lodges, first-rate lodges and luxury camping in wild and beautiful
locations. Camping consists of expedition-style tents with
comfortable beds, foam mattresses, sheets, pillows, blankets, hot
showers, full camp crew, and cooks with all equipment provided.
Transportation
is by well equipped, four-wheel drive Land Rover or Land Cruiser
safari vehicles. We put a maximum of five people plus the
driver/guide in each vehicle so that everyone has plenty of room to
stretch out and be comfortable. The tops of the vehicles open so you
can either stand and enjoy clear views during the game drives or sit
and enjoy the view from the window. The road conditions, although
generally good and constantly improving, can sometimes be rough,
dusty, or muddy, but it’s nothing our drivers and their vehicles
can’t handle.
On
some days, we will spend a good deal of time in our safari vehicles,
especially when moving from one location to another. Once in a
particular location, however, we are generally free to relax on our
own. The nature of this safari requires us to be together for
extended periods, so participants should enjoy being part of, and
contributing to, a group safari experience led by women for women.
If you are a “people person” and have an easy going and adventurous
spirit, we can almost guarantee the trip of a
lifetime.
When
it’s necessary to keep a certain fixed schedule, we rely on the
group to help things go smoothly. Sometimes, however, in spite of the best
teamwork and planning there will inevitably be times when things
don’t go according to schedule. For example, a safari vehicle may
get a flat, or road or weather conditions may force a delay. In
these situations, it helps to keep a relaxed and positive attitude –
after all, this is Africa! It
all gets dealt with and taken care of, and it’s all part of the
adventure.
As
you may have gathered this will not be a standard tour bus safari.
We will show you the most incredible places we know with the time,
budget and logistics we have available. What you make of it from
there depends on you. It is our hope that every member of the group
sees himself as an active participant in this adventure. A positive
attitude and the ability to adapt go a long way toward ensuring a
great experience on this safari.
Now,
being in Africa, I was hungry for more of it, the changes of the
seasons...the discomforts that you paid to make it real, the names
of the trees, of the small animals, and all the birds, to know the
language and have time to be in it and move slowly.”

Costs
and Group Size
This
safari is designed as either a 10 or 12-day adventure. If your time
and budget is limited, you can join us a couple days into the trip
and make it a 10-day safari. We recommend the entire 12-day
itinerary, though, to take full advantage of the experience and
enjoy some time at a beautiful private reserve near Mt.
Kilimanjaro.
The cost for the 10-day safari is $3,615 . The full 12-day safari is
$4,215 per person. International airfare is not
included. An additional excursion to Zanzibar for five days and
four nights can be added for $1,590 per person.
All
rates are based on double-occupancy and a maximum group size of 14
women. Reservations are made with a $500 deposit. The cost of our
safaris covers virtually everything from the
